For spooky season this year, I worked with some friends for this Freddy inspired shoot. Normally I stay away from horror and scary, but it was fun to play with lights and haze to bring this look to life.
And just like that, I'm thrice an uncle. Asa was born back in February and I was lucky enough to spend a weekend with him and his little Marquette family earlier this month. Seeing Otto take his place as an older brother was especially fun to witness. Here's a look at six-week-old Asa and his loving family!
So excited to see these good friends get engaged! I really enjoyed watching Young secretly plan everything and surprise Hannah with this whole evening. The orchard was a beautiful spot to wander around on a sunny fall day. Congrats you two!
What a lovely summer afternoon for a wedding. The sun was screaming hot, but that didn't stop us from having a ton of fun exploring downtown Detroit. Earlier this summer my oldest nephew turned one! It's been so great to be able to watch him grow from a distance, but getting time to actually interact with him in person is so special. I can't wait to have little conversations with him soon.

Sometimes being a photographer means getting sand in your ear, running around barefoot, chasing down a tall ship, and getting wet up to your knees in Lake Michigan. If that's the worst of it, I'll take it. Late spring in Michigan is a beautiful time for a wedding and I had a great time spending the day with this amazing group of friends. I'm an uncle. It's amazing to see my brother become a father, and my sister-in-law become a mother. The love they have for this new little guy is a beautiful thing to witness. I was privileged enough to spend a long weekend with this small family in South Philly and took advantage of my time to capture these fleeting moments of Otto's infant days. I can't wait to watch him grow and continue to see my brother and sister develop as parents. Love this little guy!
When you plan a beautiful, outdoor, summer wedding, you hope against hope that it doesn't rain. The hopes did not win out this day. Despite the gloomy and fall-like weather, this couple and their party maintained a relaxed and happy disposition all day! It was a joy to work with them and capture the happiness of their day.
I love the little moments that I'm able to witness over the course of a wedding day. Alison's dad seeing her for the first time in her wedding dress, the look in Brent's eyes as Alison first stepped down the aisle, the emotional hugs of the wedding party after the ceremony - it's amazing to see all these beautiful relationships celebrated over the course of the day.
What a wedding to kick off the year! Despite being a sloppy, gloomy day outside, this couple was far from it! These two have so much energy and happiness and it was a pleasure spending the day with them. I seriously love that I'm able to be present to see a couple's first look on their wedding day! Meredith & James had such a sweet and happy meeting as they first looked upon each other. They then went on to have a beautiful ceremony and made the most of a somewhat rainy day. (Who doesn't love a kiss under an umbrella?!) Here's a glimpse into their wedding day.
It's always great fun to be able to shoot Engagement and Wedding photos for a couple; it gives me a chance to get to know them a bit more. Megan & Dan are no exception here. We had a great time hitting a number of East Lansing landmarks, including a stop at the MSU Spartan Statue.
The moment that got me during this wedding was when Avery was unsuspectingly handed a letter from Steve. It was beautiful to watch that interaction!
It's been great getting to know this family over the past year at Riv. I wish them all the best as they continue on to the next step in their lives. We made sure to get in a family portrait session before they headed out of town. A swell time was had by all for sure!
If I had to pick two words to describe this couple and their wedding party I'd have to go with Elegant & Goofy. Seriously, this was such a gorgeous party, down to the bride's ornate boots, and yet this group of friends had such a blast all day. They weren't afraid to be themselves and truly enjoy the day. I loved seeing all of that and being able to capture their day through photographs.
These are two great people and I've absolutely loved getting to know them more through photography. This wedding had so many details and it was a joy capturing them all. Everything (and I mean everything) was so well thought out and beautiful too!
I have to say, watching a crowd of friends and family whole-heartedly participating in traditional folk dances was a joy to witness, and a sight you don't often see these days. Apart from the wedding party's decided advantage from the prior night's training session, it was great to see people learning each dance step by step and having such a fun time together! Peter & Aneta are super down to earth, and this wedding reflected their love for their friends, family, and each other.
I loved witnessing them hang out with their friends at their wedding and really care about each and every person there. I'm excited for these two as they begin their life together, and as they continue to pursue their friends with genuine love and respect.
Growing up in the Michels family, my grandparents put great emphasis on the cousins knowing each other and keeping in touch despite the miles between us. It was a great honor and encouragement when my cousin asked that I be the photographer at her wedding. Seeing the family together and being there to capture all their special moments was super fun. I recently had the chance to spend the afternoon wandering around some landmarks of Lansing with Katie & Pete. I've somewhat known both of them for a few years, but it's been great to get to know them better in the recent weeks, and it was super fun to wander around our great city together. Harvest time! Comfy sweaters, hay rides, pumpkin ales, hot cider, apple orchards – nobody can say no to all the goodness that this time of year brings. Peter & Aneta asked me to join them as they revisited the site of their first date: The Country Mill in central Michigan. I really enjoyed working with them, and we had a ton of fun picking apples, eating apples, and grabbing some photos in the process. Enjoy this look at their very autumnal engagement photos!
The final weekend in September turned out to feel much more like summer than a cold fall day, typical of Michigan this time of year. The sky threatened us all morning, but just in time, the sun broke through and drove away all the clouds. What began as a gloomy and rainy day ended as the perfect backdrop for this Michigan backyard wedding. It was a joy seeing this group of friends celebrate Lauren and Mike as they begin this new stage of life together.
These two. Sometimes I ask myself why I'm so frequently present for some of the happiest and most memorable moments of people's lives. Yes, I may have been asked to be someone's photographer, but there are other times when it's truly a privilege to be present for a few minutes of someone's life. This is how I felt with Doug & Lindsey just moments after Doug popped a knee.
These two people are some of the smiliest, friendliest, and most loving people I know. If you've met either of them before, I'm sure you've experienced their amazing smiles and even greater hugs! These two have a genuine care for others, and as a friend, I was incredibly honored to be asked to photograph their wedding. Spending the day with them I was reminded how much Kevin and Kelly are cared for, and how much they show their care for others.
